At the heart of the Young Reporters Program is the belief that the most effective way to encourage positive life choices among young people is to foster dialogue. The Young Reporters Program helps kids find their voice so they can communicate directly and effectively with their peers and other members of their community. By empowering young people to speak up and be their own advocates, we drive civic engagement and provide a unique avenue for them to initiate dialogue in society at large.

Our end goal is to secure for ourselves a new generation of conscientious reporters and judicious readers who recognize and demand quality journalism.

The Young Reporters Program seeks to accomplish this goal in 4 ways:

  1. Instill in our youth the value of responsible journalism by developing kid-friendly materials that teach them how to read and comprehend news articles and critically analyze the information therein

  2. Create incentive-based programs that encourage students to engage directly with the issues that confront their communities while developing strong writing and communication skills

  3. Train teachers to help students identify the elements of effective journalism and use that information to write compelling articles

  4. Seek appropriate publishing outlets to cultivate peer and adult readership

To date, Kid Scoop has facilitated the publication of more than ten thousand articles and stories written by young reporters across the United States.
