What’s the Problem?

34 million adults in America would have trouble reading this statement.

Sadly, this statistic is not improving much with the next generation. In fact, one in three young adults will not graduate from high school this year, and those that do graduate are not necessarily equipped with the reading and writing skills that they need to achieve success in a career or higher education. Low literacy rates lead to disenfranchisement with the educational process and a feeling of detachment from one's community. Crime, unemployment, poverty, and other serious social problems result.

The good news is, we can change these statistics!

Kid Scoop Foundation was founded on the belief that supplying kids with accessible news resources at a young age ultimately produces literate, socially responsible citizens who are active in their communities. Our programs use kid-friendly materials to encourage student writing, initiate greater civic participation, and promote awareness of local, national, and international news.

Our Mission

For Children:
To celebrate and encourage reading and journalism among students in elementary and middle school using local news content as an educational tool.

For Communities:
To educate young people about the issues that confront their communities, and thus inspire greater civic awareness, engagement, and citizenship.

For the World:
To distribute cost-effective learning materials to schools and youth organizations in under-developed countries that have few educational resources.
