About The Contest

Kid Scoop Foundation believes that there is a direct link between literacy and physical health. And while educating kids on the merits of making healthy choices is a great start, it is not enough to ensure follow-through. What we need is to help kids make up their own minds about how to lead a healthier life by encouraging discourse among young people so they can share ideas and learn from one another. By empowering young people to initiate change in their own lives and then share what they have learned with their local communities, we achieve a greater overall behavioral impact than by any other means.

Our Theme for 2011 Is: Healthy Hometown Heroes

There are Healthy Heroes in every community who work to help kids lead healthier lives. Contest participants should interview someone who promotes health, fitness, or nutrition, learn about what they do, and then ask for any advice they can give to kids about how to be healthier. Participants should then write a newspaper article about who that person is, what they do, the advice that they gave, and why they are a Healthy Hero.

Who's a Hero? Anyone who helps kids be healthier! Ideas include PE teachers, chefs who specialize in healthy cuisine, local farmers, sports coaches, and nutritionists. Use your imagination and ask around-- these kinds of Healthy Hometown Heroes abound!
