More than 30 million American adults read at a below-basic literacy level. A further 63 million have only basic reading skills. The fact is that there is a very real crisis of literacy in America today.

The Literacy Program is Kid Scoop Foundation's primary initiative. We focus on helping students in elementary and middle school establish the reading and writing skills they need to ensure success in school and, ultimately, in life. Our programs are designed by experts in the field of education to engage students in fun and skill-building exercises, while addressing the key literacy issues most often faced by students in this age group.

What makes our programs unique is their creative use of the newspaper to expose young students to the basics of journalism and, more importantly, to pique their curiosity about current events in their community and the world. Getting kids to read and understand their local newspaper is absolutely critical to our mission of developing highly literate, socially responsible citizens who actively engage and ameliorate the world around them. It is a low-cost method that yields great returns.

Kid Scoop Foundation currently distributes content-rich reading materials in both print and digital formats to more than 300 communities across the United States, Canada, Thailand, and Uganda. We are constantly looking for new ways to expand our footprint and make news resources accessible to students from all walks of life.
